  • Complete the compulsory General Boating theory course
  • Provide satisfactory evidence of practical boating experience or undertake a practical boat handling course
  • Successfully undertake the general licence knowledge test

 

Recreational Boat Licence Theory

Cost: $130 (inc GST)

Pre-Requisites – Young Adult Licence Applicants (aged 12 to under 16 yrs) must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian when sitting the theory test.  Proof of identitity of the parent or guardian is also required. 

Course Content –

This course builds boating knowledge, understanding and confidence in the local navigation and pilotage rules, and safe boat handling.  It's ideal for people new to boating, and also for existing boaties who wish to upgrade their navigational skills and knowledge of current regulations.  The course is delivered by experienced skippers who know the local waterways.  It will be fun and very informative.

Important information

So you can gain maximum benefit from the classroom session you need to pre-study the NSW Maritime Boating Handbook prior to attending.  This course is the same for both young adults (aged 12 to under 16 years) and Adults (16 years and over).

Outcome –

On successful passing of the knowledge quiz you will receive

  • Certificate of Satisfactory Course Completion to present to NSW Maritime.  You will also need evidence of your practical boating experience or successful completion of your accredited practical boat handling course.
  • STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT Certificate issued Base Point Maritime Training

    General Licence - 1 Form of Photo ID is required (e.g. Driver's Licence, Passport, or RTA issued Photo Card). 
    Young Adult Licence (persons 12 to under 16 years) 1 Primary Document  (eg Full Birth Certificate or Passport) and 1 Secondary Document (eg Medicare Card, Bank Account card, bank statement, bank passbook, student identity card or certificate or statment of enrolment not more than two (2) years old from an educational institution).   Parent/Guardian of Young Adult Licence applicant must also show proof of identity (eg Driver's licence, Passport or RTA issued Photo Card)
